We’re hosting a drop-in event to help you learn about the NHS ‘Pharmacy First’ scheme and how it can make getting healthcare advice and treatment quicker and easier.

  • Shingles (for those aged over 18 years old)
  • Sore throat (for those aged 5 years and over)
  • Earache (for those aged between 1 and 17)
  • Impetigo (for those aged 1 year and over)
  • Infected insect bites (for those aged 1 year and over)
  • UTIs (for women aged 16–64 years)

When and where?

Right here at Yaxley GP Practice

  • Wednesday 12 February 2025: 11am – 2pm

We will explain how the Pharmacy First scheme works and how it can benefit you and your family.

What is ‘Pharmacy First’?

The NHS ‘Pharmacy First’ scheme encourages patients to visit their local pharmacy for minor health concerns instead of booking a GP appointment or going to A&E.

Pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals who can:

  • Provide advice and treatment for common conditions.
  • Help you get the care you need on the same day, without the need for an appointment.
  • Refer you to a GP or other services if necessary.
  • By using your pharmacy for minor illnesses:
  • GP and hospital appointments are freed up for patients who need them most.
  • NHS resources can be better used where they are needed most.

Why this matters

Many people instinctively contact their GP or visit A&E when they feel unwell, but for minor conditions, this often isn’t the quickest or best option.

We look forward to welcoming you to the event and helping you find out how Pharmacy First can make a real difference for you and your family. See you there!
