NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, part of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS), have launched the DadPad, a free and easy to use app which can help local fathers with guidance on how to develop the mindset, confidence and practical skills needed to meet their babies’ physical and emotional needs.

The app covers:

  • feeding, holding, changing and cleaning your baby
  • dealing with sleep deprivation and a crying baby
  • building a strong paternal bond with your baby
  • home safety and first aid
  • supporting yourself and your partner

Caroline Saywood, Local Maternity and Neonatal System Lead Digital Midwife said, 'Whether you’re a first-time dad or a fifth time dad, being a parent is a constant education where we have to keep learning. You might want to learn some first aid, get a refresher on surviving with little to no sleep, or find out what support services are available locally; it’s all on the DadPad app.

'We are dedicated to improving maternity services and the experience patients have in our maternity units, helping every child locally get the best start in life.'

Rowena Chilton, Head of Midwifery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, said: 'It’s fantastic news that DadPad has launched across our maternity services. This is an invaluable resource for dads for pregnancy, around birth and postnatally. There are hard copies of the DadPad available when more support to engage dads is needed.'

Rowena added: 'Alongside the DadPad app there is a hard copy DadPad Neonatal book that will support dads when their baby is admitted, planned or unplanned, to the neonatal unit. We’re also pleased to share that a co-parent pad has been developed to achieve fill inclusivity and offers a bespoke resource for the LGBTQIA+ community which we’re really excited about as well.'

The app is available to all dads and dads-to-be within the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and can be downloaded for free, from the App Store and Google Play. Dadpad is also available in a hardcopy booklet versions, will shortly be available to support those who do not have access to DadPad digitally and will cover the main topics contained with the DadPad app.
